A new project within the Sectorplan Humane AI at the University of Groningen uses a jigsaw puzzle to increase public understanding of conversational AI such as ChatGPT. The comic-based puzzle explains how language-model chatbots work, what their limitations are, and explains their societal impact in an engaging and accessible way. Created through live collaboration between researchers from multiple disciplines and sketch artist Maaike Hartjes, the puzzle has already been used in public engagement events and is now being shared with schools and other stakeholders.

European Researchers’ Night 2025 at the Groningen Forum
As part of the European Researchers’ Night 2025 in the Groningen Forum on 26 September 2025, the Humane AI team presented a number of activities on AI, chatbots, and related topics. This year’s edition included activities for the general public, as well as for high-school students. Among other things, Natalia Laba (2025) gave a short talk “Truths/lies & latent space: Why should you care about AI-generated images?” in the context of the Grounding AI program
